The Alaskans Sharing Indigenous Knowledge (AKSIK.org) project - a science and
advocacy project documenting the impacts of climate change in two Native
communities in Alaska and communicating their adaptation needs - now has a new
film on its website.
The new video entitled Stay and Defend is the
debut film by David Smith and documents how this village of 250 people is
struggling to build a protective berm to guard against increasingly severe

"People need to start
living in a way that is less damaging to our planet," said Nikhil
Chandavarkar, Chief of the Outreach and Communications Branch in the Division
for Sustainable Development, in a UN Radio interview on the occasion of
International Mother Earth Day. He says the global community has been digging
into what he called the earth's "savings account", which is

President
As United Nations Member States prepare to adopt and move toward
implementing a new development agenda, the President of the General Assembly
said it is critical to ensure that “a harmonious relationship with our planet
underpins our quest to achieve sustainable development.” “This year's dialogue
on Harmony with Nature is timely, as the formulation of an ambitious and
transformative development agenda for the next 15 years is under way,” said
General Assembly President Sam Kahamba Kutesa as he opened the Assembly's
interactive dialogue on 'Harmony with Nature: Towards achieving sustainable
development goals including addressing climate change in the post-2015
development agenda.'
